A co-op, or cooperative, is a business voluntary owned and
controlled by the people who use it - it's members, or owners.

The Elk River Area Food Co-op is member owned and directed grocery store that operates for the mutual benefit of the owners and the community at large. Co-op’s are different from your typical grocery store in that they adhere to a special set of principles and values that help guide and set standards for the organization.  A food co-op is a democratically ran business resulting in a powerful economic force that benefits all those involved. We are dedicated to supporting local as often as possible and holding our products to the highest standard.

What will it look like?

This all depends on what our members want. If the community decides they want a full scale grocery store, that's what they'll get. Our dream is to have a one-stop-shop for all your health and wellness needs. This includes, but is not limited to, a packed deli with locally sourced meats, a vibrant selection of clean produce, aisles filled with healthy canned and boxed goods, a well stocked bulk section and if we're lucky a bottle shop carrying the regions best spirits and beers.

Not only will we have what you're looking for in regards to healthy products, but we are committed to recruiting a knowledgable, welcoming, inclusive staff. A team that not only will great you with a smile and hello, but will take the time to answer all your questions and help you find what you're looking for.

And if that isn't enough to drool over... there's more.
We won't be just another grocery store, rather we aim to create a community space that emanates health and sustainability. It's apart of our guiding principles and the heart of why we're creating the co-op in the first place. We are dedicated to providing an atmosphere of health education and awareness and plan on holding classes. Whether it's a cooking class, how to ferment your own kombucha, tips and tricks for shopping on a budget or a fun kids craft night - we want this to be a gathering space for neighbors and friends.

So... do you have a $100 to spare?

$100.00. That's all it costs. There are no hidden fees or annual renewals. You invest your share and become an owner in the Elk River Area legacy. An old farm community going back to it's roots - neighborhood support, local agriculture and a brighter future for those who follow.
